overview

Studio Passen was established in 2025 by Harry Page and practices out of a studio in Stroud.

The practice is founded on an interest in projects of all scales that have craft, sustainability and materiality at their core. Studio Passen’s ambition is to make projects that have a physical presence and material language that elevate how a space is experienced and that are inherently a joy to be in. Above all, to make an architecture that is appropriate to place, use and budget.

We enjoy the process of understanding a client’s aspirations — whatever the scale of project, whether it’s a piece of joinery, the refurbishment of an interior or a whole building, what motivates our practice is achieving thoughtful, well-crafted spaces that are a pleasure to be in and enhance the ordinary.

At Studio Passen, we believe the process of interrogating the context, balanced against the client’s ambitions, is essential to achieving a thoughtful and elegantly crafted architecture that celebrates craftsmanship.

We begin with a conversation to understand what it is clients want to achieve at the conclusion of a project, taking time to gradually reveal and distil the fundamental aspirations at the project core. We then undertake a careful and thorough study of the site through sketching, collage, photography and physical model making; this underpins our understanding of the material palette, space and location.

principles

At Studio Passen, we do not think sustainability should need to be talked about — we always seek to build in a manner that has a minimal impact on the planet, dovetailing design with sustainability as standard. To build with longevity; crafting buildings and spaces that will endure and tolerate change over time, and in doing so ensure sustainability is at the core of every project.

To constantly challenge any preconceived assumptions for a project. We continually question every decision during the process, to be sure the architecture that stems from this process has been considered from all aspects.

To remain curious; we do not set out with the intention of repeating a Studio Passen ‘signature’ nor to follow current trends. We are not preoccupied with making grand architectural gestures — instead, we consider how the particular spatial qualities and conditions of a new site can inform the emerging design language.

Every project is approached with an open mind — emerging designs run alongside one another simultaneously, continually rebounding and informing one another at every step of the process.
